A community group representing people with hearing difficulties in Staffordshire has been learning how the area's
leading provider of affordable homes is delivering extra support for vulnerable people in the neighbourhoods it serves.

Members of the You First Wellbeing Service team from Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) were invited along to a recent Hearing Advice for You (HA4U) meeting to explain the services they provide.

Hayley Murphy,Independent Living Managerat SARH said: "Our aim is to provide bespoke practical and emotional support to help clients maintain their independence and several members of HA4U already benefit from this support.

"The meeting gave us the chance to let other members know how we can help them with a wide range of support, from helping with weekly shopping and driving to appointments, to dealing with utilities companies and preparing meals.

"We can even accompany them to social groups and connect them with other members of the local community.

Hayley and her colleagues were invited to talk to members of the HA4U at one of its regular meetings at Rising Brook Baptist Church. The group meets monthly with the help of Staffordshire County Council's specialist support service, ASSIST, which provides electronic notes for them to read during the meeting.

Jimmie Durkin MBE, Treasurer and Acting Chair at HA4U said:"The group was set up to support adults who are deaf, deaf blind and hard of hearing, and their carers with useful information in a relaxed and social setting. Each month we invite a guest speaker and we are delighted that members of the Wellbeing Service at SARH agreed to come along to tell us about the services they provide.

"Their talk was excellent and I'm sure many people will find their help invaluable."

One of the members of HA4U attending the meeting Judy Anne Stubbs, already benefits from the service and commented: "It really has been a lifeline to me, with the Wellbeing team helping me with everyday tasks like direct debits and driving me to important appointments.

"They are always very friendly and helpful, I don't know what I'd do without them," added Judy who also lives in a SARH property.

The SARH Wellbeing team is planning on visiting other community groups and organisations to highlight its valuable work and would be interested in hearing from any other local associations who would like to find out more.

Anyone can access the service, they do not have to be SARH customers, and to access the service they only pay for the time the team are with them.

If you would like to talk to one of the SARH team please contact 0800 111 4554 or visit the websitewww.sarh.co.uk/wellbeing.

Meanwhile, HA4U will also be staging an Open Day event at Rising Brook Baptist Church on March 7 from 10am - 12noon.
