Travel advice for the Justin Bieber concert on Friday (June 30)

As part of the Purpose World Tour - Justin Bieber will be at the Principality Stadium on Friday night, with the gates opening to ticketed fans at 5.30pm.

With 40 000 people expected to be in the city, there will be a small road closure pre-event with Westgate Street, Park Street and Scott Road closing at 6pm - with the ability to expand the road closures if deemed necessary on safety grounds.

After the event, as people leave the stadium, the road closures will be extended to cover parts of Cowbridge Road East, Castle Street, Duke Street and Wood Street.

Arriva Trains Wales is advising all customers that Cardiff Queen Street Station will close at 9.45pm and there will be a post event queuing system at Cardiff Central. There will be limited extra services after the concert and customers are advised to return directly to Cardiff Centralafter the concert-https://www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk/principalitystadium/

Principality Stadium has issued new policies on bringing bags into the stadium, as well as information on prohibited items and body searches. Only small bags, no larger than 35cm x40cm x19cm will be allowed into the stadium.

Those travelling by car are being strongly advised to use the Event Park & Ride Facility at Cardiff City Stadium in Leckwith. Given that this event is taking place on a week day, city centre car parks are expected to be busy.

The following roads will be closed between 6pm and 11.30pm

  • Westgate Street

  • Park Street

  • Scott Road

  • On safety grounds, if it is required, the council is able to close Wood Street, Lower St Mary's Street, with a lane closure on Cowbridge Road East adjacent to Gate 1.

After the event between 10.30pm and 11.30pm - the additional road closures will be:

  • Cowbridge Road East from its junction with Cathedral Road to its junction with Westgate Street.

  • Castle Street, Duke Street and Wood Street.

The Authorities are advising that if there are any safety concerns relating to the queuing system at Cardiff Central Train Station, then Wood Street, Westgate Street, Park Street, Havelock Street, St Mary Street, Penarth Road, Saunders Road and Customhouse Street will remain closed until these issues are resolved.

Can you cycle or walk?

Those that live locally in Cardiff may want to travel by bicycle or walk.Research shows us that 52% of car trips made in the Welsh Capital are less than 5km. This is a distance that can be comfortably cycled in 20 minutes. We also know that 28% of Cardiff residents that currently do not cycle would like to do so. When the roads are congested this makes cycling an even more attractive option as travel by bicycle would be quicker than a car during rush hours or during big events.

Trains

All customers are being advised to buy a ticket (return if needed) from the first available ticket dispenser/officeor from the Arriva Trains Wales Ticket appbefore you board the train.
