Velothon 2017 returns to South Wales
The Velothon is returning to the streets of South East Wales on July 9th.
This year, there will be a 110km and a 140km race and both events will start and end in Cardiff. For the safety of the competitors, both events will take place on closed roads, with competitors leaving Cardiff from the Civic Centre, heading down Castle Street, onto High Street and out of the city towards the Magic Roundabout. They will then head east - along Ocean Way, Rover Way, Lamby Way, through Wentloog towards Newport.
When the competitors return into Cardiff, they will come over Caerphilly Mountain, down through Lisvane, into Cyncoed and back into Cathays finishing at the Civic Centre.
There will be extensive road closures to facilitate this event in Cardiff. The event organiser has been liaising with residents and businesses that will be affected.
The mass participation race will start at 7am and the road closures will be lifted as soon as it is safe to do so. The Pro-Race will take place later on in the day, on a rolling road closure basis, flanked by police motorbikes.
Due
to the road closures in place, Wedal Road Household Waste Recycling Centre
(HWRC) will be closed all day as well as Bessemer Close and Lamby Way until
2pm.
Both
Bessemer Close and Lamby Way HWRC will operate from 2pm until 6.15pm.
