Rediscover your childhood with a family fun day celebrating games from a bygone age at Cardiff Story Museum.

The Retro Games Day is staged at the museum on Wednesday 30thof August between 10am and 3pm.

Families will get the chance to play with toys and classic board games from the past and children will also get the chance to create their own retro-themed toy during craft workshops.

Manager of the Cardiff Story Museum, Victoria Rogers said: "Children will be able to create items such as peg dolls and snap cards during our craft sessions and we hope that older family members enjoy taking a trip down memory lane as we reintroduce them to toys and games from their childhood. We know that reminiscing and using nostalgic memories can have therapeutic benefits for those suffering from memory loss and with this in mind we have a 1970s memory box stall with objects, images and stories from that decade which we hope will stir up fond memories and generate discussion. But the main theme of the day is definitely family fun as we celebrate games and toys that have brought so much pleasure over the ages."

Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure at Cardiff Council, Cllr Peter Bradbury said: "Whether it's Twister, Buckaroo or the universally popular Snakes and Ladders; everybody had a favourite game as a child. The Retro Games Day at Cardiff Story Museum is the perfect opportunity for families to have a fun day out this summer and to reminisce about the games they used to play growing up. Who knows it might even prompt families to get a board game out when they return home!"

Throughout the day there will also be yo-yo and hula hooping competitions at the museum.
