Haringey men first to text chat online to a GP

Haringey men are the first in the country to be offered a pioneering online service that could change the way we use GPs in the future.

Man MOT is a free, confidential online health advice service from national charity the Men's Health Forum. Man MOT launches online at www.manmot.co.uk on 24th April and will be open Monday 6pm-midnight, Thursday 6-9pm and Sunday 6-9pm.

Men die earlier than women. In the UK a man dies prematurely every five minutes. Yet men use primary health care services far less than women do. So if the man won't go to the GP perhaps the GP should come to the man. Man MOT is a free service that uses text chat to do exactly that. It enables men to talk to GP from wherever they want about whatever they want - quickly, easily and anonymously.

With Man MOT men can 'chat' directly to a GP about any health problem at all via a computer, tablet or smart phone. No appointment needed.

The new service was designed by and for men in Haringey. The Men's Health Forum worked with men in the borough to design
Man MOT.

Jim Pollard manages Man MOT for the Men's Health Forum charity. He said:
'Man MOT does what men in Haringey told us they want - it's a free, confidential online health advice service. We hope that once men in other areas see what's available in Haringey they will want Man MOT too but for now Haringey is the only place in the country to have a service like this.'

Peter Tickle, Health and Wellbeing Senior Development Officer at Tottenham Hotspur Foundation said:
'Tottenham Hotspur Foundation is delighted to support Man MOT Haringey. We meet men from across Haringey and know that many are interested in their health but don’t want to see their GP. Man MOT provides men with answers to their questions, enabling them to make are more informed decisions about their health'

The Men's Health Forum worked with Haringey Council and the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation to bring Man MOT to Haringey. Man MOT Haringey is funded by the Department of Health.
