New 3G Astroturf football pitch to reflect ‘advancements in artificial grass’, says leading supplier
New 3G Astroturf football pitch to reflect ‘advancements in artificial grass’, says leading supplier

The new specialised all-weather pitches that are planned to be installed in Bishop’s Cleeve could be the testing grounds for future football stars and already the proposal has been given big thumbs up from players and spectators who will be able to attend matches in sun, sleet, hail or snow.

The project is currently being presented to Bishop’s Cleeve Council by Persimmon Homes, a property and land developer whose plans for the new 3G astro pitch in the village will ‘benefit the community’, saving on maintenance costs and provide a fully useable surface that is promised to be of “Champions League” standards.

In the lead up to the proposed plans, there was a discussion between Welbeck Land, the organisation in charge of building over 500 homes in the Cleevelands area and parish councillors that the town would benefit more from having a new football pitch than a community shelter/building.

With voting on the plans still taking place, there are strong signs that the proposition will be granted and work will begin, with the pitch possibly built near the home grounds of Bishop’s Cleeve Football Club located in Kayte Lane.

In a statement issued by the vice-chairman of the Parish Council, Phil Taylor, he said: “We felt we wouldn’t know what to do with a third community building.

“The 3G astro would be an all-singing, all-dancing surface. Basically, if Manchester United wanted to play on it, they would be able to.”

With Floodlights and sufficient car parking for spectators to local matches, the new 3G football pitch will not only service the needs of second and third team players from Bishop’s Cleeve Football Club but will also be open to members of the public and the local youth team.

“The team here are delighted of the news that astro turf will be used to create a pitch suitable for championship football games. For us it simply emphasises the technological advancements that have been made in the design and manufacturing processes, creating artificial grass that can be purchased in a wide assortment of colours and designs. The new 3G grass holds excellent drainage properties and that is a durable, efficient and low maintenance option, whether covering the expanse of a full sized football pitch or a small front garden.”
