                                         Caberdek lays down a solid base for music store

Norbord's Caberdek flooring has been used in the construction of a veritable Aladdin's Cave of musical instruments and equipment in York.

Gear4Music, a successful online music retailer, built a new showroom in Kettlestring Lane, Clifton Moor, in order to bring its existing retail outlet and extensive warehouse under one roof.

The new showroom, built by local builder Mark Fryer, comprises 9,000 sq. ft. of high quality retail space, packed with a bewildering array of instruments, amplifiers and associated equipment to cater for every style of music from pop through blues, jazz and folk to classical.

The open-plan showroom features a wood-effect floor supported underneath by Norbord's 22mm Caberdek tongue-and-groove particleboard flooring.

Made at Norbord's Cowie plant in Scotland, Caberdek is one of the UK's favourite flooring products. It combines a high quality, moisture-resistant panel with a tough waterproof protective film to guard against the element during the construction process and prevent damage to the floor by following trades, such as plastering and painting.

Mark Fryer used 450 Caberdek panels to install the floor, which was then finished with a proprietary wood-effect surface.

Jonathan Meager, marketing manager with Gear4Music, says the showroom has proved a great success. "It's not like a normal showroom; we've designed something more exciting.

"We only opened in early May and the showroom has been a magnet for musicians who have visited in their droves. The floor's seen a lot of traffic in just a short while!"
