New figures show
that tourism spending across many parts of Scotland have risen to £1.6 billion
this year, a sharp increase from the previous £1.4 billion that was generated the
year before.
The
significant increase has seen many more overseas visitors arriving in Scotland
to experience the best that the country has to offer, from natural scenic
beauty to events like the Commonwealth Games.
Scotland’s
Government Minister, Derek Mackay was keen to express his views on the findings,
saying: “Despite operating in a challenging environment, our tourism industry
has worked hard to make Scotland a destination offering quality experiences for
visitors”.
He added: “There
is a huge demand from long-haul tourists for holidaying in Scotland and they
are clearly prepared to spend their money in our hotels, tourism attractions
and restaurants.”
Experts say
the results reflect a defined improvement in the cultural attraction of
Scotland as a whole. From the Edinburgh Carnival to the traditional
celebrations of ‘Burns Night’, there is a mix of new and traditional events
that have helped to define Scotland as a viable and popular tourist
destination.
Together
with attractions that are occurring in 2014 such as the Commonwealth Games, the
MTV Europe Awards and the ‘Ryder Cup’, not to mention the vast array of quality
accommodation and open welcome that visitors receive when visiting, Scotland
have really put themselves on the cultural map.
