Sellers more optimistic while buyer confidence declines – Safe Removals responds
Recent statistics have revealed that sellers are becoming more optimistic, while buyers are feeling less confident.

A study has found that buyer confidence in the housing market has fallen in the last few years as a result of spiralling property prices and the prospect of rising interest rates. The finds come via Halifax’s Housing Market Confidence tracker and find that the number of people who believe that next year will be the best time to buy a home has fallen from 35% in the first three months of 2014.

In recent months, attitudes towards buying a new home have become increasingly negative, with 18% stating they’re worried about interest rates, and 55% of respondents stating that raising a deposit is a major hurdle.

In all, 47% thought it was a good time to buy and 42% thought it was a bad time to buy.

In London, where the price of housing has seen a particularly strong increase within the last year there is a balance of minus 19% of individuals believing the upcoming months to be a great time for buying a house, with stats standing at minus 24% in the South East.

However, it was revealed people living in the North East were likely to believe it would be a bad time to sell homes.

Craig McKinlay, the mortgages director at Halifax, said: "Over the past two years consumer confidence has continued to grow, however it appears that we've reached a tipping point, with the equilibrium between buyers and sellers much more out of sync.

"The results highlight the regional variations as now people believe that it's a good time to sell but not buy, particularly in London and the South East where house price expectations are generally higher and buyers appear to be less inclined to rush into buying a property as we have seen over the past 12 months."
