The news
comes as new figures were released that showed that visitors and the amount
they were spending had jumped, particularly in the Northwest with popularity at
its peak across Liverpool and Merseyside. In 2013 the region attracted just
short of 53 million visitors, compared with a little over 52 million the
previous year. This rise of 2%, revealed by the Liverpool Local Enterprise
Partnership (LEP) corresponds with increases in staying visitors and increased
tourism revenue.
With a year
packed full of events and the better than usual summer that many parts of the
UK have experienced this year, the LEP report that further improvements in visitor
figures, spending and trends will see an even greater year in 2014. With that
said, leading software specialists NFS believes their hotel management software
will present amazing benefits for hotel chains, larger bed and breakfasts and
other hospitality providers across the region.
Chair of the
LEP’s visitor economy board, Sara Wilde McKeown spoke of the region wide
visitor increase, saying: “These figures are extremely encouraging and
underline the appeal and popularity of our destination.” Adding to this,
references to the facilities, accommodation and attractions the region has
plans for were also mentioned:
“With
further significant developments including new hotels, last week’s hugely
successful Open Championship in Hoylake, this week’s Giants Spectacular and a
host of other major events, we fully expect further growth on these figures in
2014.
“Looking
ahead to 2015, there will be more hotel openings, the new Exhibition Centre at
ACC Liverpool and the Cunard 175th anniversary which will further boost
figures.”
