11 year old Yorkshire golfer wins girls' American Golf Championship

AMERICAN GOLF CROWNS FIRST JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPION

Warrington: Europe's largest golf retailer, American Golf, is delighted to announce that11 year old Libby Kilbride of Renishaw Park Golf Club was crowned Girls' Championat the American Golf Club Junior Championship held yesterday, 27thAugust, at De Vere Mottram Hall, Cheshire. As if this wasn't enough in itself, Libby also came second in the overall competition scoring the same as the eventual winner, beaten only on countback.

100 juniors aged between 7 and 18 competed in the event, which was held on De Vere Mottram Hall's Championship Golf Course. This was a challenging course for the juniors with the front nine gently rolling over meadowland and the back nine giving a more demanding woodland setting, totalling 6675 yards off the yellow tees.

The Championship was fiercely contested with Libby and 17 year old Paul Marshall of Sale Golf Club both scoring an impressive 42 Stableford points. Despite finishing birdie, birdie, par, Libby was pipped to the post for the main title. As well as receiving her trophy and runners up medal, Libby also won a girls' PING L8 Carry Bag and a selection of PING accessories.

"Junior golfers are the future of our sport so we felt it was important to create a relaxed event that embraces younger players," comments Daniel Gathercole, Head of Marketing at American Golf. "We were astonished by the level of interest and by the standard of play, but what impressed us the most was the attitude and sportsmanship shown by every single participant on the day."

  1. Paul Marshall, 17 from Sale Golf Club. Handicap 15. Won with 42 points on countback.

  3. James Shering, 16 from Macclesfield GC. Handicap 22. 40 points
