Supermarket ‘unfair prices’ to come under scrutiny – Liverpool Hog Boss comments

Liverpool Hog Boss, a catering company specialising in hog roasts, has responded to news that the EU is to review unfair supermarket practices

The agriculture commissioner for the European Union, Phil Hogan, has announced that a review of supermarkets is imminent, with widespread complaints from the farming sector of “unfair practices”, many of whom say they’re being held to ransom.

The announcement came at the European Parliament, where Hogan told MEPs that current discussions between supermarkets and farmers weren’t good enough, arguing that producers are “in fear of supermarkets”.

Current agreements between supermarkets and products are voluntarily but Hogan stressed that he was “certainly willing to use legal instruments to get a fair price for farmers.”

His speech was made earlier in the month in front of the agriculture committee for the European Parliament.

The news was warmly received by farmers in Europe, many of who feel they’ve been subject to poor prices over the years. But support certainly didn’t stop there as a number of politicians, media outlets and others in the hospitality sector – chefs, restaurants, caterers, etc – also backed calls for better bargaining powers for farmers, many of whom rely upon sale of produce to supermarkets.

One such company is Liverpool Hog Boss – a catering company in the North West of England specialising in hog roast catering. They frequently comment on industry related news and research and believe that new measures are needed to better support farmers in the United Kingdom.

“The current situation obviously isn’t ideal and it’s great to see that the issue is currently on the politicians agenda because for a long time farmers haven’t been properly compensated for their produce, regularly forced to endure prices that are unfair and, some would say, being held to ransom by big supermarkets,” explained a spokesperson for Liverpool Hog Boss.

Adding, “As a prominent hog roast caterer in Liverpool we work very closely with our suppliers, sourcing high quality produce from local, independent farmers. Not only are we able to support family farmers in doing so but we’re also able to provide our customers and their many guests with the most succulent hog roast feasts known to man.”

Liverpool Hog Boss caters for birthday parties, weddings and corporate occasions. The company can provide food for events large and small and operates throughout the local area. Visit their website today at www.liverpoolhogroasts.co.uk to learn more.
