Liverpool Hog Boss backs impending pork promotional campaign

Liverpool Hog Boss, a hog roast machine hire and catering company, have thrown their support behind a recently announced promotional campaign aimed at improving the image of pork.

The campaign is started by BPEX, the British Pork Executive and will be designed to make pork more desirable to younger people after research showed that pork had a poor image relatively to other meats, particularly amongst people under the age of 50 who are unsure how to cook it.

The campaign, which is due to begin in Spring of last year, will have a heavy focus on pulled pork – an increasingly popular import from the USA which can be found everywhere from restaurants and restaurants to takeaways and supermarket shelves.

Head of marketing for BPEX, Kirsty Walker, said: “The focus of this will be on pulled pork. Consumer research has shown us that pulled pork is a dish consumers are keen to know more about and it also utilises shoulder, one of the less popular cuts.”

One of the other problems highlighted by BPEX is that even though pork is a popular choice for young people, a lot of people have difficulty cooking it and tend to stay away from it because they’re unsure of how to cook it safely without overdoing it and making it too tough and dry.

Another reported issue is that many of the under 50s questioned said they didn’t know enough about pork relative to other meats and were aware of less ways that it could be cooked.

“Extensive research showed that pork had a comparatively poor image, particularly among younger people who didn’t know how to cook it,” Kirsty said.

BPEX research suggests there aren’t enough pork recipes online, in print or on television to encourage young people to use it more often. To tackle this issue, a recipe book by Ladies in Pigs featuring 190 pork-based dishes will be available as of December.

Liverpool Hog boss, a well-known hog roast catering and machine hire specialist, often give their views on related industry news. They believe pork has made strong inroads in recent years among young people.

A representative for the company said: “Pork has definitely come back in vogue in a big way recently and that trend looks set to continue. From the continuing demand for scrumptious whole roasted pigs to pulled pork quickly becoming one of the favourite foods of young people, there’s plenty of appetite for pork we just need to do more to show young people why pork is great and what can be done with it.

“Pork is also one of the more affordable meats out there which means it’s great when compared with the likes of lamb and beef. It’s also one of the world’s most widespread meats, so you can use it for everything from Asian to American to European cuisine types.”
