American Vogue celebrates bodies of all ‘shapes and sizes’ after Victoria’s Secret controversy – My-Knickers comments

My-Knickers, a popular online UK seller of lingerie, have commented on a recent shoot celebrating bodies of all shapes of all sizes published by Vogue.

In the wake of a “damaging” advert released earlier in the month by Victoria’s Secret, in which a number of size 10 models were featured on an ad with the phrase ‘the perfect body’ emblazoned on the front, American Vogue have published a shoot aimed at celebrating bodies of various sizes, winning praise from many.

At the start of the month, Victoria’s Secret were forced to “amend the irresponsible marketing” in the wake of a petition calling on them to change the ads which received 26,000 signatures. The ad now reads: “A body for every body.”

Gabriella Kountourides, petition co-founder, said: “We’re really happy with the change. I think it’s much more positive but we’d still really like a public apology from Victoria’s Secret and a promise they won’t do more harmful ads.

“The advert is kind of ironic because it says for ‘every body’ and yet it’s just one kind of body. We would love to see them incorporate more girls and bodies, and have everyone there.”

Responding to the controversy, American Vogue published their own shoot on the 12th of November, showcasing a variety of lingerie models of various body sizes, prefacing the shoot with the headline: “Give me a D! Give me an F!” Because Gorgeous Bras Come in All Shapes and Sizes.”

My-Knickers is an online seller of sexy lingerie who often share their views on breaking industry news and research. The company has backed the American Vogue photoshoot.

A representative for My-Knickers said: “The Vogue shoot was great. It’s good to see a company of their stature come out and join the conversion about size and body image. Most agree that the fashion industry doesn’t do enough to cater for the vast majority of people, instead often choosing to rely on unusually slim women. Shoots like the one from Vogue show that you don’t need to be a size 6 to be sexy.

“At My-Knickers we have sexy lingerie available to suit a diverse range of body types. All of our products can be purchased online and will be delivered direct to your door.”

My-Knickers was established in 2001 and is one of the best online stores in the UK for sexy, stylish lingerie at competitive prices. They stock a variety of items, from nightwear to fetishwear, and deliver throughout the country. Visit their site at www.my-knickers.com to start shopping today.
