Mersey Gateway roadworks and footpath closures update
Essential work on the Mersey Gateway Project means the following new road, lane and footpath closures will be in place over the coming days and weeks.

27/07/15 - ongoing | A533 Central Expressway/A5126 Weston Link | The southbound slip road from the Central Expressway to the westbound Weston Link will be permanently closed from Monday, July 27, as part of the ongoing changes to the road layout and priorities given to traffic. Theofficial diversion route, marked with a solid diamond symbol, will take drivers north up the Central Expressway on to the Bridgewater Expressway and around the Weston Point Expressway, back to Weston Link. |
27/07/15 onwards | Slip road from Southern Expressway to Weston Link | The diversion route for the closure of the slip road from Southern Expressway to Weston Link will be revised from July 27 due to the closure of the slip road from Central Expressway to Weston Link. Thediversion route, marked with a solid diamond symbol, will take drivers north up the Central Expressway on to the Bridgewater Expressway and around the Weston Point Expressway, back to Weston Link. |
27/07/15 onwards | A562 Speke Road to Ditton Roundabout offslip | The slip road from A562 Speke Road eastbound (towards Widnes) to Ditton Roundabout will reopen after completion of refurbishment works. Lane 2 will remain closed. |
28/07/15 - 31/07/15 | Ditton Roundabout | One lane will be closed on the west side of the roundabout for resurfacing work overnight from 7pm to 5.30am. |
03/0815 - 05/08/15 | Beechwood Avenue | Temporary traffic lights will be in operation on the northbound side of Beechwood Avenue, under Weston Link, during the day from 9.30am to 3.30pm. |
03/08/15 - 30/11/15 | Moor Lane, from Ditton Roundabout to Ashley Way | One lane will be closed to Moor Lane roundabout and all approaches from 9.30am to 3.30pm. |
07/08/15 - 10/08/15 | M56 junction 12 roundabout | Lane closures on the slip road and approaches to M56 Junction 12 roundabout and on the roundabout itself from 7pm on Friday, August 7 until 5.30am on Monday, August 10. Drivers are encouraged to find an alternative route or to allow additional time for their journeys, as delays are possible. |
08/08/15 - 09/08/15 | Between Ditton Roundabout and Moor Lane Roundabout | Total closure of the road connecting Ditton Roundabout and Moor Lane Roundabout from midnight Friday - midnight Sunday. Adiversionvia Ditton Road, Hale Road, Liverpool Road and Kingsway will be in operation. |
10/08/15 - 16/08/15 | Between Ditton Roundabout and Moor Lane Roundabout | Total closure of the westbound route (heading towards Ditton) between Moor Lane Roundabout and Ditton Roundabout.Adiversionvia Ditton Road, Hale Road, Liverpool Road and Kingsway will be in operation. Lane closure on eastbound route (heading towards Widnes) between Ditton Roundabout and Moor Lane Roundabout. Overnight and weekends only, 7pm - 5am Monday to Thursday, midnight Friday - midnight Sunday. |
17/08/15 - 21/08/15 24/08/15 - 27/08/15 01/09/15 - 13/09/15 | South west side of Ditton Roundabout | Total closure of Ditton Roundabout between Queensway southbound access road and Ditton Road eastbound access, including total closure of Queensway northbound exit slip to Ditton Roundabout and Desoto Road exit and access slip roads. Overnight and weekends only, 7pm - 5am Monday to Thursday, midnight Friday - midnight Sunday.Diversion routesto allow access to Speke, Widnes and the Multimodal Gateway will be in operation. |

The team may have to put in place overnight road closures or diversions at short notice due to emergency situations, and these may not be detailed here, but it is our aim to provide information that is as up to date as possible.
The economic, transport and social benefits the project will bring to the region include:
470 permanent full-time equivalent jobs on site during construction
4,640 permanent direct and indirect jobs
£61.9 million a year in Gross Value Added from the new jobs by 2030.
When it opens in 2017, both the new bridge and the Silver Jubilee Bridge will be tolled, but they will be free* to all Halton residents.

About the project
The Mersey Gateway Project will be one of the largest infrastructure initiatives in the UK over the coming years. The Mersey Gateway Project has been identified as one of the UK government's Top 40 priority projects in theNational Infrastructure Planand it has been recognised by KPMG as one ofthe‘Top 100 infrastructure projects around the globe'.
Its features will include:
a 1,000m long cable stay bridge consisting of four spans supported from three towers in the estuary;
a unique design where the 80m high central tower will be shorter than the two outer towers, which will be 110m (north tower) and 125m (south tower);
a total length (including the bridge and approach viaducts) of 2.13km;
a deck carrying six lanes of traffic (three in each direction) with a speed limit of 60mph;
up to 30 supporting piers carrying it across the approach viaducts; and
a curved approach at each end of the bridge giving varying views of its unique design and maximising its visual impact.
*Residents of Halton will need to register to use the bridges and there will be a small charge for this.

About the Merseylink consortium
The Merseylink Consortium was appointed by Halton Borough Council as the project company in 2014 on a 30-year contract to design, build, finance and operate the project.
Its equity partners are Macquarie Capital Group Limited, BBGI, and FCC Construcción. The construction joint venture, is made up of Kier Infrastructure and Overseas Limited, Samsung C&T Corporation and FCC Construcción S.A.
Sanef S.A. will deliver and operate the tolling solution for the consortium.
