Gaia underfloor heating for Bury St Edmunds Cricket Club

Batsmen leaving the crease at Bury St Edmunds Cricket Club won't mind the short walk back to the pavilion for an early bath now that the showers and changing rooms feature Gaia's underfloor heating system.
The club has recently built a new pavilion, club-house and sports hall as part of a major investment at Victory Ground. All the ‘wet' areas - including the four changing rooms, showers and toilets - are heated with Gaia's low temperature hot water (LTHW) underfloor system.
"Underfloor heating is ideal for changing rooms and bathrooms," says Mark Sorrell, projects engineer with specialist contractor Imtech, which installed the system.
Unheated tiled floors, especially in wet areas, can be cold even when the ambient temperature is comfortable. Furthermore, wall-mounted radiant heaters often leave cold spots in rooms. The combination of uneven heating and constant moisture is a perfect breeding ground for mould and other micro-organisms.
"Underfloor heating is better in these areas because wet floors dry quickly and the heat is more evenly distributed," says Mark.
"Although conventional radiant heating was installed in other parts of the new building, the client insisted on underfloor heating in the changing rooms and shower rooms," he adds.
Four Gaia underfloor circuits were installed in the pavilion, each with its own manifold to circulate the hot water to the different zones. Control is provided by Gaia's wireless infrared controllers and wall-mounted thermostats.
"The wireless system is easier and quicker to install and is simple to operate," says Mark.
