TPA panels help guide Anglian Water to a wastewater upgrade

Temporary roadways from TPA give Anglian Water access to a WRC improvement scheme.

Portable roadways from temporary access solutions supplier TPA have helped Anglian Water pass the halfway mark in a two-pronged improvement to a wastewater recycling centre (WRC).

The WRC on Creaton Road, Hollowell, Northamptonshire, is being improved to conform with phosphorous/iron and storm volume requirements that had to be in place by March 2024. But with approved supplier TPA's help, the project was completed two months ahead of schedule.

The storm volume requirement was met with the provision of a new 310m3 glass-coated steel tank to supplement the existing storage tanks.

Anglian Water decided to deliver the two requirements concurrently to drive efficiency from the moment go, using one design team and a single 3D model, and one project team to generate savings in site preliminaries and to minimise disturbance to neighbours.

However, the existing access was deemed unsuitable by the authority's construction team due to the narrow track across residents' gardens, several gates, livestock grazing in fields, low-hanging trees and tight turns.

Alternative temporary access across open fields using TPA's heavy duty aluminium panels and sheep fencing was agreed with the landowner. The project also required widening of the existing farm gate off the public highway and removal of some of the hedgerow, filling in some of a ditch, and crossing a small water course.

The 3m-wide TPA panels were mostly laid single width, to carry excavators and rollers, with some additional panels at the corners for longer vehicles to turn, as well as for car parking and compounds.

Paul Garner, construction manager for Anglian Water @One Alliance, said: "TPA's products have always performed well and accommodated our heavy construction traffic.

"Site surveys are conducted in an efficient and timely manner, as are the quotes, and contract changes are managed efficiently, with no fuss. Installations are always booked to accommodate our dates and are flexible to accommodate our constraints/late changes, plus the teams on site are very professional, helpful and adaptable."
