Wolf trusses chosen for new East Yorkshire Village Hall

Hull-based manufacturer, Turner Timber Frame, has provided Wolf Systems roof trusses for the construction of the new £500,000 village hall in Paull, East Yorkshire. 

The new lottery-funded building, designed by local architect, David Cross, replaces an old 1930s prefabricated building that had long ceased to provide suitable facilities for the community.

Located alongside Paull's historic Grade II listed lighthouse (now a private dwelling), the new building is a timber-frame L-shaped structure with a central entrance hall. 

Besides the bespoke timber frame panels, Turner Timber also supplied the roof trusses which were designed and fabricated using Wolf software and nailplates at its factory in Hull. These included complicated splayed trusses used to support the corner detail of the roof over the entrance hall. 

Turner Timber Frame was founded more than 25 years ago by time-served joiner Malcolm Turner who began manufacturing timber frame panels in his home garage. 

Following a growing demand for his services, Malcolm relocated to a business park in the village of Brandesburton and, by 2010, the company had outgrown its home and moved to new premises in Hull. 

At the same time, the company joined forces with Wolf Systems to manufacture easi-joists and roof trusses. "We'd never made trusses before and used to buy them in for our projects" explains commercial director, Helen Turner. 

"The move allowed us to invest in new equipment and start making joists and trusses ourselves. We've had lots of support from Wolf and the investment has really paid off" she adds. Since moving into Hull, the company has increased its staff numbers from three to 12, with three people dedicated to truss and joist production. 

"Although the building industry has suffered due to the recession, we have continued to grow by thinking ahead and investing for the future" explains Helen.
