In a new collaboration designed to improve aftermarket care for materials handling equipment fleet managers, Briggs Equipment has appointed Shell as its exclusive oils and lubricants supplier.

For all rental deals which include full service and maintenance and stand-alone service contracts, Briggs Equipment will use Shell engine oils, transmission and gearbox oils, hydraulic oils and greases.

Equipment breakdown can severely compromise equipment uptime, with a potential knock-on effect on productivity and revenue, so fleet managers are continually balancing the need to achieve optimum equipment efficiency with low operating costs. Consistent use of quality oils and lubricants is therefore an important value proposition that combines extended equipment life and lower whole life running costs with optimum productivity.

Using lubricants that offer full engine and driveline protection can help to reduce equipment downtime which, along with longer maintenance intervals, can help lead to lower operating costs and extended equipment life. They can also help enhance fuel economy and, as a result, help to reduce fuel costs.

Andy Kovacs, Parts Manager at Briggs Equipment, says: "Working closely with equipment manufacturers and harnessing leading edge technology enables Shell to deliver real value by creating a wide range of energy-efficient and long-life lubricants in response to end user needs.

"As well as a reliable supply of quality products, this new collaboration will give us access to expert technical advice, which will help benefit our business as well as our customers' businesses."

Along with a dedicated technical helpline, Shell will provide its LubeAnalyst oil condition monitoring service as a health check for lubricants and machinery. The aim is to reduce costs and add value by identifying potential oil or equipment issues before they result in damage or failures. Thanks to extended lubricant life, change-out downtimes and procurement costs are also reduced. Overall, the service will help Briggs Equipment to minimise risks and support its customers in the safe and effective management of their equipment fleets.

Shell's new role as the sole supplier of oils and lubricants to Briggs Equipment is fully endorsed by NACCO Materials Handling Group (NMHG), which supplies all equipment from the production line with Shell products.

Wouter Noordam, Commercial Aftermarket Executiveat NMHG, says: "We look forward to the collaboration between Shell and Briggs Equipment mirroring our own programme and delivering important benefits to end users.

Robert Nell, Off Highway UK Sector Manager at Shell, says: "We are very pleased that Shell and Briggs Equipment have agreed this new working relationship, which will provide Briggs Equipment with access to Shell's portfolio of lubricants for its servicing and aftermarket requirements.

"Lubricants have a key role in enabling operators to reduce total cost of ownership and improving fuel economy. We look forward to working closely with Briggs and utilising Shell's technology leadership in these areas to deliver value to Briggs' customers."
