Jackson Fire & Security helps prevent false alarms for busy North Wales haulier

A new state-of-the-art transport hub has been fitted with a tailor-made fire detection system designed to prevent false alarms.

We were asked by rapidly growing haulage firm Edge Transport to fit the Siemens Cerberus Pro fire alarm system at its purpose-built 6.2-acre site on the Deeside Industrial Park.

The system has a no false alarms guarantee, which is crucial for the busy haulage company to avoid lost time caused by unnecessary evacuations.

In addition, the system, which covers a 100,000 square foot area, has been specifically configured to overcome the common contributors to warehouse false alarms. 

As well as maintaining and monitoring the system, Jackson Fire & Security also services its fire extinguishers and carries out all PAT testing.

Project manager Rob Jones said: “Edge Transport has been a client of ours for more than three years now, and when they moved to their new depot in Deeside earlier this year, we recommended fitting the Cerberus Pro system.

“As a busy haulier, there are forklift trucks and lorries working throughout the day on site.

“With that in mind, we’ve configured the system to avoid being set off accidentally by the common causes of false alarms in warehouses, including emissions from the machinery.

“Because of the size of the warehouse, we also fitted an aspirating smoke detection system, which draws air samples from areas needing protection.

“The system is fantastic for large open areas, as it can provide reliable coverage over areas where it would be difficult to access and maintain a regular smoke detector, such as a warehouse roof.”

The alarm is monitored using a DualCom fire system, which provides 24-hour coverage of the property, ensuring emergency services are alerted even when the transport hub is vacant.

“Their engineers are always quick to respond to any queries we have, either coming out to meet us in person or instructing us over the phone, which allows us to save time and get on with our work.”
