Top-class appointment at CNWL

Hardev Virdee has been appointed CNWL's new Executive Director for Finance.

Set to start at CNWL on Monday 14 March, he replaces Trevor Shipman who is retiring after 12 years with the Trust.

Hardev currently works at Wandsworth Clinical Commissioning Group, where he has been the Chief Financial Officer since 2012. While there he was the lead for Public and Patient Involvement in Wandsworth, working closely with the voluntary sector.

Hardev began his NHS career as part of the National Graduate Training Scheme following Manchester University.

After qualifying as an accountant (CIPFA) he moved to the London Strategic Health Authority. He was Director of Finance for Hounslow, Hillingdon and Ealing Primary Care Trusts.

Hardev then moved to South West London where he was Director of Financial Strategy.

He also sits on a number of national finance bodies and is also a Trustee of the Point of Care Foundation, which focuses on improving care for patients and their carers.

Hardev lives in Kingston with his wife and two children (daughter, six; son, four). He enjoys a weekend run/limp in Richmond Park and has been known to attend the odd Formula One Grand Prix.

He still aspires to play guitar and has a music collection that ranges from Elvis to Foo Fighters.

CNWL's Chief Executive, Claire Murdoch, said: "This is a really top-class appointment and I look forward to working with him.

"After 34 years in the NHS (12 of them here) Trevor Shipman, our Finance Director, will be retiring. Like the great accountant he is, he closes the book on 31 March 2016 and we are starting the impossible task of finding a replacement. Trevor will be greatly missed for his good sense and helpful manner and I'm sure he'll have even more time now for his six children who I bet are glad to have him back!"
