FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Look and Menu for Ben's Second Season

Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove - a restaurant and events venue which enjoys an enviable beach-side setting - has unveiled exciting plans for its second season.

When the doors open once more on the 12thFebruary, guests will find a refreshed menu, eye-catching artwork, a packed events programme and the promise of plenty more to come throughout the year.

The restaurant was included in both The Good Food Guide and Michelin Guide 2016 within a few months of opening - early achievements which Ben and the team are keen to build on.

Ben said: "We have reinvigorated the menu and added more of our personality to the décor by commissioning work from a local artist. We will be growing our diverse programme of community events, and hosting regular live music."

The new menu will see Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove become one of the best places in the whole of the UK to sample the diverse seafood of our shores.

Making the most of Newlyn Fish Market, as well as buying directly from fishermen working out of Sennen itself, Ben's team of talented chefs will be serving bucket loads of fresh shellfish and sustainably caught fish - with a signature Fruit De Mer platter showcasing the highlights of the daily catch.

Family-friendly classics will continue to be given the Tunnicliffe treatment, with homemade burgers and fish and chips, plus a great value children's menu.

Desserts will have a retro seaside feel, with knickerbocker glory, banana split, eton mess and other favourites, all made with the finest quality homemade ice cream.

To match the fresh food and energetic ethos of this beach-side eaterie, statement artwork by Mat McIvor now adorns the walls.

Mat is a Cornwall-based artist, illustrator and poster designer, who last year worked on a series of unique posters promoting events at Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove.

He has created three paintings - ‘Eat', ‘Drink' and ‘Play' on large wooden boards made from salvaged timber sourced from Shiver Me Timbers reclamation yard near Penzance.

Mat said: "I absolutely loved creating these fun, colourful pieces and I'm grateful to Newlyn & The Exchange for letting me use their studio space. I've tried to capture the exuberance of a sunny day at Ben's restaurant - the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of the seaside."

Live music sessions and a regular DJ residency will add to the atmosphere once again this year, and the restaurant will grow into its role as a hub for the community, hosting charity events, craft fairs, surf competitions and other fitness activities including yoga classes.

Further information:

Ben Tunniliffe at Sennen Cove- This west facing restaurant with its exceptional architectural design boasts a large terrace on which you can relax and enjoy stunning sunsets over this rugged and unspoilt bay. The restaurant as you see it today was completed in the spring of 2004 and is the culmination of fifty years work by the Shannon family. Leonard, a carpenter, built the original beach cafe in 1959. After various expansions, Leonard's son, Philip, himself a carpenter/builder and assisted by his two sons Dan and Jack built the complex that is home to the Beach Restaurant today. Ben took over the lease on 1st March 2015.

Ben Tunnicliffe - Ben has been a champion of Cornwall's food and drink since he settled here in 2001. He made a name for himself as Head Chef at The Abbey in Penzance, where he gained a Michelin Star in 2003. After that he was at the helm of the kitchen team for the launch of The Scarlet Hotel, Cornwall's premier eco hotel and spa retreat. In 2012 he took over The Tolcarne Inn, a traditional Cornish pub right by the sea wall in the heart of one of the UKs most important fishing ports. A year later he was awarded a Bib Gourmand - the 'little brothers' of The Michelin Stars which recognise quality food at reasonable prices. Ben lives in Goldsithney with his wife Kinga and their two young sons Ollie and Xander.
