As part of the European Artistic Craft Days initiative, organised in association with the Crafts Council, the Leach Pottery will be holding a FREE Open Day on Saturday 2 April. The EACD event brings together a select group of high quality studios across the UK and 18 other countries in order to celebrate our European craft heritage and its unique combination of tradition and innovation, and to promote the cultural value of contemporary craft in today’s society.

The Open Day includes free entry to the museum and to current exhibitions, including Trevor Corser: 40 Years a Leach Potter in the Cube Gallery and Leach Heritage in the Entrance Gallery, and offers visitors the opportunity to see skilled makers in action, with outdoor Raku firing demonstrations and hand-throwing demonstrations in the historic Old Pottery Workshop. The gallery shop will also be open and there will be a sale of Standard Ware seconds from the onsite studio workshop.

Doors will be open from 10am to 5pm. Last admission 30 minutes before closing.

Notes to Editors:

The Leach Pottery is managed by the Bernard Leach (St Ives) Trust Ltd, a registered charity founded in 2005 reg. no 1111263. The primary objectives of the trust are to further the development of studio pottery, provide training in the art, craft and making of pottery and to advance the public education of the life and work of Bernard Leach and his circle.

The Leach Pottery’s dedication to providing student and apprentice opportunities and excellence in training has resulted in its selection as one of the UK’s new Craft Trailblazers, a group of key employers who have set the national standards for new government backed craft apprenticeship guidelines.
