Care home owners need outside help, says Bibby Consulting & Support

Without large scale management teams, directors of multiple site care homes have a virtually impossible task to ensure everything is working well, across all locations, all of the time, says Michael Slade, Managing Director of employment law specialist and health and safety advisor Bibby Consulting & Support.

Care home owners with multiple sites are increasingly likely to call in outside help because the very nature of their work is so complicated, Slade says, and one issue on one site can tarnish the reputation of the whole group.

Bringing in specialists is also the most cost effective way to ensure consistency across multi-sites, he says. Specialists can provide much needed resource on the ground to set benchmarks, highlighting sites that are doing well and those that don't meet the required standards, while helping to bring every home up to the benchmark.

Benchmarking and working to a consistent standard will not only prevent people from getting hurt but also protect the company's reputation - and the directors from prosecution. However, helping care home owners is not about simply covering their backs, Slade says.

"If you get all processes in place you are improving the quality of care and the environment everybody works in, so you are more likely to keep staff who feel valued and invested in.

"And it is not just about keeping inspectors happy either - most companies we deal with don't have an issue with official inspections, they just want to make sure that they are doing everything in the right way and are running their homes as efficiently as possible."

Bibby Consulting & Support is renowned for a different approach to safety consultancy for multi-site care homes - the company doesn't simply carry out an inspection, issue paperwork then come back a year later, insists Slade. "We work regularly throughout the year with those who need our help so that they can continually improve. We are a vital extra pair of eyes and an additional resource to help homes secure operational efficiencies - also, of course, ensuring they don't run into problems."

He concludes: "Care home managers are busy professionals and we are delighted to support so many who are doing a great job at developing their people and improving safety standards across the UK."
