More than 30 employees at Cannock-based Briggs Equipment ran, jumped, slid, crawled and splashed their way around JCB's estate to help raise tens of thousands of pounds for a worthy cause.

Nine teams of four from across the company took part in this year's JCB Mud Run, which attracts competitors from across the country to raise funds for the NSPCC.

The event raised in excess of £55,000 for the charity, with materials handling solutions provider Briggs sponsoring one of the obstacles and paid for its staff to enter.

In taking part, the intrepid Briggs teams joined around 2,500 other hardy competitors in scrambling through a grueling 5-mile course in the heart of the Staffordshire countryside.

The natural terrain of woods, rivers, inclines, peat and grass also included a few additional obstacles to force those taking part into the mud and dirt.

Briggs' Stacy Allison, Senior Service Controller at Briggs Equipment, took part on the day and commented: "It was the muddiest and most challenging course yet but we all thoroughly enjoyed every step, slide and jump.  The day was a huge success, entirely thanks to the fantastic JCB team who pulled out all the stops.

"We were all delighted to be a part of the event again this year and proud to help raise funds for such a worthy cause, we're already looking forward to next year's Mud Run!"

Teams from Briggs have taken part in the annual Mud Run for a number of years as JCB continues on its quest to raise £1 million for the charity that helps vulnerable young people at risk of cruelty across Staffordshire.

Pete Jones, Managing Director added: "As a company we are committed to supporting the local community and our employees are frequently engaged in fundraising for a number of local charities, however the JCB Mud Run has become one of the highlights of our year and we are delighted to once again lend support."
