New Network Teaches People How To Recognise Early Symptoms
The Symptoms Awareness Network is officially launched online this week to help raise awareness of health symptoms and to educate people about how to recognise them early.
After a family friend was diagnosed with bowel cancer too late to be able to prevent it spreading, Chris Davis the network's creator, ran a pilot scheme online to raise awareness of the early symptoms of bowel cancer. "The campaign was viewed by more than 35,000 people and taught them to look out for the early signs of bowel cancer. So many organisations came forward offering to help us promote it by sharing with their staff and customers. It was clear that there was a lot of potential to do something similar for other health issues."

People are encouraged to join the network not only to discover simple tools to help increase early diagnosis levels but also to give support to others. "We send members simple symptoms news, important notices, expert tips, health check reminders and work with partners and sponsors to bring members relevant health deals. It takes less than a minute to sign up but the information you receive could save a life," explains Chris.
Individuals and organisations can add their own awareness campaigns to the network."We work with individuals and organisations to promote their campaigns. Where we can, we try to find business sponsors and others who are able to give the campaign a boost. Big charities have budgets to be able to raise awareness of important health information and symptoms but smaller organisations often don't have the capability to do this effectively. We make it simple for these types of organisations to get their key messages out," Chris said.
The network acts as on online hub for symptoms and health awareness campaigns. Once a campaign is added to the site it can be promoted to other social networks and shared by anyone viewing it online. New tools are regularly added to make the network easier to use. Chris reveals: "We are currently developing a mobile tool to allow us to quickly promote one featured campaign a day. A mobile app developer has kindly offered their help to create this new service."
