RELEASE DATE: 15 August 2013
100% A-Level pass rate for Ivybridge Community
College
1-in-5
grades are A/A*
Ivybridge
Community College has recorded exceptional A-Level results, with 100% pass
rates across all subjects and one-in-five being either an A or A* grade.
This
is an increase on last year’s 99% pass rate, with an impressive 181 students
securing places at universities.
“These
are terrific results that show exceptional progress in our sixth form,” said
Rob Haring, Principal of Ivybridge Community College, “and I’m extremely proud
of both staff and students for their hard work and commitment. We operate an inclusive sixth from policy, so
to achieve a 100% pass rate really is fantastic. What’s more, many of our
students have got higher-than-predicted grades, which means that they can now
apply through clearing to upgrade their university courses.
The
proportion of Ivybridge students that achieved A*-B grades was also an excellent
44%.
“The
results are particularly remarkable when you consider that national results
have remained ‘stable’,” added Rob. “It’s
also been an important part of our role as a college to support those students
whose grades are not those anticipated, and I’m delighted to say that with our
help many of these students have still managed to secure places at their chosen
universities.”
Student quotes
Among
those who achieved the ‘gold standard’ of three A grades is Kathryn
Baines. Kathryn achieved top marks in Psychology,
Physical Education, and Sociology, securing herself a place at Exeter
University studying Psychology. “I’m so
excited,” said Kathryn, “and I can hardly believe how good my results are. Exeter was my first choice because it is one
of the best places in the country to study Psychology – and it’s a bonus that
it is close enough to home that I can easily come back and visit. Ivybridge has been an exceptional to study –
my teachers have been so supportive and I will miss everyone.” Kathryn will live in halls at university and hopes
to continue her part-time job as a gymnastics coach to help fund her studies.
Another
student that recorded top grades is hard-working Manon Lambert. “I’ve got five As,” she said. “I’m so relieved – it means that I can now go
to Oxford to study Economics and Management.”
Alistair
Lee, who gained two As and a B, has secured a place studying Medicine at Leeds
University. “It was tough, but it’s been
worth it, knowing that I have got onto my course” he said. “Those who have worked hard for the past two
years have got the rewards for their efforts.”
Ellen
Bulgen, who got two As and an A*, did so well that she is hoping to ‘trade up’
her university course. “I am really
chuffed,” she said. “I had to work very hard,
but it has been worth it. I’m now
planning to take a gap year and then go to Leeds University to study Medicine.”
