PORTVIEW FIT-OUT HEADS TO NEW YORK FOR OSCAR DE LA RENTA

A Belfast-based company has been awarded a contract to do the interior refit-out of international designer brand Oscar de la Renta's new concept store in New York.

Portview Fit-Out (www.portview.co.uk) was nominated for the job following its successful fit-out of the iconic brand's first concept store in London's Mayfair earlier this year.

Construction work at the Madison Avenue store in the heart of upmarket Manhattan is well underway with American builders on site since March. The team at Portview has been co-ordinating this part of the build from Belfast with weekly conference calls.

Oscar de la Renta (www.oscardedelarenta.com), which had an existing 150 sq m store in the designer shopping district, acquired an adjacent 170 sq m unit and will combine the two to more than double the sales area for the new high spec outlet.

Portview's Contracts Director, Sean McEvoy, explained:"The existing store is being extended and we are co-ordinating that process from Northern Ireland because of our experience with the first new Oscar de la Renta store in London."

The award-winning Belfast firm won the job after completing a high-quality fit-out of Oscar de la Renta's London store - the first in the world to showcase the latest design and specification concept.

The 300 sq metre Berkeley Sq store was designed by New York-based Meyer Davis Studio.

Portview's experienced team, which works across the UK and Ireland for many of the world's top brands, had to overcome major logistical issues during the work in one of London's most exclusive areas

Sean said:"There was damp in the basement of the building so we had to find a new approach to the fit-out. It was essential the internal work was completed without damaging a damp proof course. This store is entirely bespoke, it had never been done before anywhere in the world and we did not compromise on anything as we had a time set out to get the job done."

Time and access restrictions to the site were also challenges for the team. Due to the residential nature of the address, noise restrictions are imposed by Westminster City Council and everything had to be delivered using the front door address.

Meanwhile the Portview team discovered there were structural problems to the first floor of the building and Oscar de la Renta had to enlist the services of a specialist engineer to ensure the building could support itself.

Sean added:"This vision had never been put into practice before and it had to be right for Oscar de la Renta's CEO when he came over. It was a very complex project and required many months of design development in order to bring it to fruition. Oscar de la Renta was very pleased with the finished project and that is why they commissioned us to do their New York store."

Oscar de la Renta is one of the world's pre-eminent designers. The company was established in 1965 and currently produces a full line of women's accessories, bridal, childrenswear, home décor and fragrance, in addition to its signature women's ready-to-wear collection.
