Funfashionistas - workshops to spark children's passion for fashion!
Funfashionistas offers workshop events and courses with a difference that are perfect for after school or holiday clubs. They're all about learning while having fun and giving children the opportunity to explore and express their creativity, individuality and learn some important life skills.
Suitable for schoolchildren of any age, male or female, the concept inspires young people and nurtures their enthusiasm to make and create, providing them with the materials and guidance to turn their imagination into fashionable items. Everyone needs to know how to sew on a button, so these are essential life skills too!
The workshops teach starter skills including fashion drawing and design, collaging, appliqué customisation and basic sewing. There is also an element of eco-awareness in the workshops, as they show how to bring new life to old items. They are flexible enough so that everyone can benefit, even talented designers or dressmakers who want to go further and follow up courses can be tailored for students that have already taken part in the starter sessions.
Activities that are introduced in Funfashionistas workshops include; fashion drawing and design, creating textiles and prints, recycling and customising old clothes, knitting, sewing techniques and adding a fashionable twist to arts and crafts. But it's not just about fashionable clothing and creations can also include; hats, bags, hair-bands, accessories, jewellery and much, much more.
At the end of the course of workshops, the children show off their creations in an exciting fashion show, which provides an opportunity for parents to admire their hard work.
In-school courses run for a minimum of four weeks and introduce the basics to absolute beginners, but can be extended for longer periods, customised or tailored to be appropriate for the age groups taking part, or to develop specific curriculum based skills. Workshop leaders are trained at some of the country's top fashion design colleges and are fully CRB checked, with references that can be provided.
Funfashionistas founder, Tammi Walker adds: "As well as an unforgettable learning experience that teaches some of the basics of creating fashion, our courses can help to develop art and craft talents in a practical way. Most importantly, perhaps, is that they're a great way to help develop vital attributes like confidence, enthusiasm and self-esteem."
