Aspire Training Team given the job of helping Budmouth College students be one of the first in the UK to receive weekly apprenticeship advice
Weymouth based Budmouth College has given the job of helping students find out more about apprenticeships to the Aspire Training Team. This is a new service offered by the College to help students who are following advice from the Government and seeking apprenticeships that will enable them to "earn while they learn" and achieve practical skills through "on the job" training. Budmouth College is one of the very first colleges in the UK to offer this service and the College Careers team which works alongside the Centre of Excellence for Industrial Liaison (CEIL) will work closely with Aspire.
Debs Chiverton from the Aspire Training Team will be running Apprenticeship Workshops every Monday lunch time at the College throughout the year. The College will identify potential students and direct them to the workshops where they will be given information on the variety of different apprenticeships available and given practical advice and support in applying for funding, interview skills and information on assessment and the student's likely progress and development during the apprenticeship.
Debs said, "The office has only been open since the start of term but we are already seeing a number of students who are keen to find out more about apprenticeships. One of the attractions is that an apprenticeship is a way to gain a qualification without having to pay huge university fees or running up a large student debt."
Marcel Ciantar, Director of Budmouth College Centre of Excellence for Industrial Liaison said, "We are delighted to be able to offer our students this opportunity and are confident that Aspire's award winning training team will really help our students find the apprenticeship that is right for them and give them the right tools to ensure they benefit from the opportunity of achieving their career goals via practical experience in the market place."
Aspire specialises in working with employers in Childcare, Adult Care and Business Administration but will also be reaching out to other training providers to ensure the widest choice of apprenticeships are available with the right employers.
Kelly Russell, Director of the Aspire Training Team, said, "Aspire is looking to work with a number of employers in Dorset who are seeking apprentices and would like to hear from more businesses looking to take on an apprentice."
