Barrett Steel awarded first CE Standard/ bs049-Tr / 04.11.13

[image]Newark Steel blazed the trail recently when it became the first in theBarrett Steel Groupto be awarded the coveted EC Certificate of Factory Production Control (FPC).

Adrian Spencer, Managing Director of Newark Steel, outlines the significance of the award: "The construction industry is facing the most significant change for a decade in the way in which construction products are sold in Europe. Since July 2013 it has been mandatory for manufacturers to apply CE marking to any of their products which are covered by a harmonised European Standard. Newark Steel have acted promptly to meet the requirements of phase 2 which introduces the concept of execution classes as a classified set of requirements specified for the execution of the works as a whole, of an individual component or of a detail of a component. This relates directly to our steel processing facilities and becomes a legal requirement from July 2014."

Adrian Spencer continues: "Newark Steel proved to the SCCS (Steel Construction Certificate Scheme Ltd) that steel is processed in accordance to BS EN 1090 and we have been issued with the EC Certificate of Factory Production Control (FPC). This proves that Newark Steel's systems and procedures are sufficiently stringent, providing customers with the peace of mind that we will deliver traceability on processed steel in line with their demands. The rest of the Barrett Steel Group will now follow our lead and all sites will have the accreditation in place prior to the July 2014 deadline."

Barrett Steel is the UK's largest independent steel stockholder offering a wide product range with access to additional materials through its supply chain network. Barrett's expertise is not limited to stockholding. Ongoing investment in its in-house capabilities, such as laser tube profiling, tube manipulation, saw cutting, drilling and shot blasting & painting ensures that the company has the flexibility to deal with a variety of projects, helping customers to identify opportunities and solutions.
