Parson and Crosland announces a boost to local investment and employment/bs048 / 26.11.13
Middlesbrough-based steel stockholder, Parson and Crosland, part of the Barrett Steel Group, has announced a major investment in plant, equipment and transport at its Forty Foot Road site. The £¾m investment has resulted in a threefold increase in capacity and the initial creation of two full-time jobs. Part of a continuous improvement programme the announcement closely follows company accreditation to the quality award, ISO 9001.
Joe Robinson, Parson and Crosland's Regional Managing Director, explains:
"We see the continuing programme of investment here in Middlesbrough as part of a resurgence in the steel industry in the North East generally. Parson and Crosland has been able to install new equipment, increase processing capacity, modernise transport, widen the stock range and reorganise the warehouses. The comprehensive programme will allow us to maintain market share within our traditional customer base, including the engineering sector. It will also help us to grow by diversifying into other profitable markets, such as offshore and manufacturing."
Joe Robinson continues: "Our tightly-knit team has established and nurtured customer relationships over a long period. Their hard work has enabled us to achieve the ISO9001 quality standard, in line with Barrett's commitment to QA registration throughout the organisation.
"Parson and Crosland, whose history dates back almost 90 years, joined the Barrett Steel Group, the UK's largest independent steel stockholder, in May 2012. The company is now poised to achieve significant growth and, with the support of our parent company and the dedication of our workforce, we can confidently predict a bright future."
