GB Building Solutions wins £5m Abney Court Care Home contract for Care UK

GB Building Solutions has won the contract to build an 80-bed care home for specialist health and social care providers Care UK, in the grounds of Abney Hall Park in Cheadle, Cheshire.

The £5million contract is the second care home project awarded to GB Building Solutions by Care UK. The development site is located within the walled gardens of the grade 2 listed Abney Hall and involves the demolition of an existing office block and the construction of an attractive contemporary building, specifically designed for the care of older people.

GB has provided over 2,500 care home and extra care beds, with this latest contract coming as a result of negotiations between GB Group, Care UK and Bruntwood. GB's care specialists were able to introduce Care UK to the opportunity resulting in a negotiated opportunity for GB Group.

The building will provide 80 en-suite bedrooms with communal areas and additional facilities to include: aground floor ‘village walk', cinema, hairdresser, spa, library, internet study, café and restaurant.The building will contain CHP plant, a number of green roofs and a sustainable drainage solution to help improve the local pond to which surface water will discharge into.

Martin Smout, chairman and chief executive of GB Group, says, "Abney Court Care Home will provide a much needed care facility to older people in the Cheadle area. Work is expected to last 62 weeks.
