New tennis sponsorship deal creates sparkle for Ellie-Rose Griffiths
Up-and-coming tennis superstar Ellie-Rose Griffiths aged 14 and currently ranked number 2 in U14's and 7 in U16's in Great Britain has just completed a sponsorship deal with Nordic Gems, the exclusive Scandinavian jewellery specialist.
Believed to be the first deal of its kind in the UK, the young player will soon be sparkling with the natural gemstones, freshwater cultured pearls and precious metals whilst on court in championship matches.
Ellie-Rose commented, "I am delighted to be associated with Nordic Gems, particularly as my love of exclusive and individual jewellery pieces is now being created for me through the sponsorship deal."
Midlands based Ellie-Rose is a member of the exclusive Junior Tennis Coaching (JTC) Foundation programme based at Northwood's Health and Racquet Club.
A dream team of the UK's most renowned tennis coaches run JTC and believe their straight talking approach to developing their young talent can launch them on to the world stage.
JTC was set up by three of Britain's leading tennis successes and includes David Felgate (Tim Henman's former right-hand man), Jo Durie (previous world number five) and her former coach Alan Jones, who has successfully taken 31 British players to Wimbledon.
The programme includes a ‘boot-camp' style of operation where their 20 players aged between 13 and 19 eat, sleep and train for four hours a day within Northwood, with financial backing being provided by Clive Sherling, a former Football Association board member.
A four-hour daily academic study period is also provided by JTC and eight teachers cover various subjects in on site classrooms for the players.
Lead coach Alan Jones commented, "I feel reignited with our team of 20 players that includes Ellie-Rose and have a great sense of achievement as I watch these young players develop.
"Our philosophy and emphasis is all about an excellent attitude of the individuals we train and develop - it's not just about strength and endurance, I am looking for a combination of effort, physical presence and mental attitude.
"All too often people fail to recognise that tennis is a brutal, warrior type, and gladiatorial sport and it's imperative that we teach our team this, to enable them to cope with the mental and physical challenges that are ahead of them.
"And that includes working alongside Dr Giuseppe Cimadoro, our specialist sport performance consultant, who educate the players on injury prevention and how to look after every joint of their body."
Assistant coach and former number 5 in the UK Jo Durie said: "The character of the individual is very important and since I have been working alongside Ellie-Rose we have been able to build up both her integrity and work rate, to complement the various tennis techniques.
"Ellie's personality will always drive her tennis and her ability to work hard and look to herself for motivation will in turn help her with the social skills she will need within the social scene.
"I am delighted that she has secured the sponsorship deal with Nordic Gems as it will help her to stand out, not only for her tennis skills, but in the way that she presents herself too.
"When I was playing, the main sponsorship deals were rackets and footwear and it shows how things have moved forward today."
Jette Cowan, founder and managing director of Nordic Gem said, "Our luxury but affordable range of jewellery is an ideal complement to Ellie-Rose and I am absolutely delighted to be involved with the development of such a talented player.
"My love of the sport as a player has enabled me to be able to create a suitable and bespoke set of jewellery for Ellie-Rose to wear whilst on court and within her social engagements, and we look forward to creating other pieces for her as we develop together."
