As Kim Kardashian's locks shock, new survey from Hair Loss Bournemouth confirms over 1 in 10 British women have suffered from hair loss

10 JANUARY 2014: As media reports confirm celebrity Kim Kardashian's shocking hair loss, which appears to be the result of a hair extension or weave that has led to the 33 year old reality star developing a condition called traction alopecia; Hair Loss Bournemouth publishes the results of its recent survey covering this issue. The survey reveals that over a quarter of women worry about thinning hair and over one in ten British women have suffered from hair loss.*

Simone Thomas, owner of Hair Loss Bournemouth, says, "Looking at media photographs of Kim Kardashian's hair loss, it looks like she is suffering from traction alopecia which can result from a particular weave that is not suitable for anyone other than those with afro style hair. Although a weave gives instant full thick hair, it can exert extreme pressure on both hair and scalp, with the pulling and weight leading to bad migraines and often resulting in traction alopecia, causing hair loss rather than helping promote healthy hair re-growth.

Simone says that her salon also sees a lot of women coming in following hair loss after pregnancy. 'Birth followed by a diet that results in rapid weight loss can both be factors triggering thinning hair and our recent survey confirms over a quarter of British women worry about this issue."
