EXPERT ON CHILDCARE AND AFFORDABILITY
Childcare provision and the affordability of childcare continue to be hot topics for debate and a focus for changes in Government policy.
Busy Bees Group Managing Director, John Woodward is available for comment and interview regarding issues in childcare and childcare affordability.
John is in a unique position to comment on issues within the childcare sector as he is Managing Director of the largest childcare provider in the UK, Busy Bees Nurseries, and also MD of Busy Bees Benefits, which operates a childcare voucher scheme to businesses (amongst other voluntary benefits) to help working parents save money on the cost of childcare.
About John Woodward
John Woodward is one of the original founding members of Busy Bees. The first nursery, The Rocklands was opened in 1984; during this time John remained in a full‐time teaching post until 1989.
John started his career as a school teacher at TP Riley Community School, Walsall in 1976. He had always been committed to helping children with problems and moved to a special education school in 1979specialising in teaching children with behavioural difficulties.
When the founders of Busy Bees decided to expand, he took the decision to leave teaching and concentrate his efforts entirely on the business, using the management skills he had developed through his career to take it to new heights. Together with the other founding members, John has developed and expanded the nursery business to become the UK's largest childcare provider, operating over 200 nurseries nationwide caring for 20,000 children every week. Busy Bees Benefits provides a childcare voucher scheme for over 7,500 businesses. John is now widely recognised in the nursery and childcare voucher marketplaces.
John was the driving force behind the launch of Busy Bees Childcare Vouchers in 1998. He expanded the business from employing just three people to a workforce of over 250. The use of his natural entrepreneurial skills drove the business forward to later be sold in a multi‐million pound deal in 2008. After many recommendations from organisations nationwide wanting a quality, consistent service, John launched a new childcare voucher and employee benefits company, Busy Bees Benefits in 2010.
