Scientists believe that they may have unearthed a cure for baldness

It's been widely reported in the media that scientists are coming nearer to finding a baldness cure. According to reports, scientists at the University of Pennsylvania, USA, were able to use stem cells to create noticeable hair growth in mice.

While scientists have been able to generate hair follicles with stem cells in the past, they've been unable to create enough of them to achieve a sufficient number of follicle-generating cells.

Associate professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania, Xiaowei "George" Xu, said that while huge progress has been made they've only solved one part of the puzzle.

"When a person loses hair, they lose both types of cells (epithelial and dermal papillae). We have solved one major problem, the epithelial component of the hair follicle. We need to figure out a way to also make new dermal papillae cells, and no one has figured that part out yet."
