Big year expected for energy efficiency and renewables

AC Test has responded to news that 2014 is to be a big year for renewables and energy efficiency

AC Test, an electricians at the forefront of the electrical industry in the UK, has commented on a prediction made by the National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers (NAPIT). As reported by Electrical Contracting News, NAPIT believes, with the Green Deal scheme being simplified, that 2014 is set to be the year of expanding energy efficiency and renewable markets.

A total of 129,842 assessments were undertaken up until the end of December 2013, according to Green Deal statistics. And there are plans by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to simplify the scheme further, including improvements to the Advice Report; the creation of a brand new internet tool; and the introduction of a £1,000 rebate for any household undertaking energy efficiency improvements that are Green Deal-approved.

David Cowburn, Managing Director of NAPIT certification, said:

"So much positivity is evident in these industries at the moment, it is quite likely that 2014 could be the year of renewable and energy efficiency. With Greg Barker announcing in Parliament that he believes renewable heat installations will increase to approximately 35,000 installations in 2014-15, as a result of the domestic RHI scheme, this shows the government's commitment.

Responding to the news, NAPIT-approved AC Test echoed the prediction by NAPIT. A spokesman for the London-based company said that a £1,000 stamp-duty rebate will likely see many thousands more making energy efficiency improvements to their homes:

"The cashback scheme, introduced late last year, could offer people up to £1,000 if they take up a Green Deal plan, and with numbers like that we're sure that more people in the UK are going to start taking energy efficiency and renewables seriously.

"Already more than one-hundred thousand individuals and businesses have had a Green Deal assessment to gauge costs and benefits, and thousands of those assessed have signed up to the plan."

AC Test offers various types of energy efficiency services and is keen to stress the benefits of LED lighting. Their spokesperson explained:

"We provide our own energy efficiency solutions. One of the most popular electrical solutions that we have is LED lighting. You can save up to 80% of lighting energy costs with LED lights, helping you to save money and reduce your carbon footprint at the same time - and you can also receive a number of green energy tax benefits.

"If the Green Deal scheme isn't right for you then we would definitely recommend continuing the search for energy-saving electricals. You save tons of money and drastically reduce your carbon footprint with our energy-saving LED services, particularly if you're working in the commercial sector."
