Lustrolite's pedigree shines through for Evolution Properties Services

As a property developer working in SW London, Robert Bell, the managing director of Evolution Properties Services, is always looking for products that stand out from the crowd. When he saw Lustrolite at the 100% Design exhibition, he knew immediately that he wanted to use it in his latest renovation project.

Lustrolite from Abacus Direct was the perfect choice for the full height splashbacks in the kitchen of the two-bedroom, ground floor garden flat in Allfarthing Lane, Wandsworth SW18, that Evolution Properties Services was developing. The Victorian house required a complete renovation which included electrics, plumbing, flooring, doors and windows, along with a new bathroom, kitchen and extension.

A contemporary look was key to the project, especially in the kitchen where handless flush fronted laminate cabinetry was chosen with brushed chrome fittings. A tile upstand was considered but it lacked the sleekness of a glass splash-back. The downside of this was the relatively high cost of glass and the difficulties associated with installation. Lustrolite had none of the problems of glass but all of the benefits. Within 24 hours of the order being placed, three Lustrolite sheets in Glacier were delivered to site to create a splash-back along the entire run of kitchen units.

Lustrolite is an advanced multi-layer acrylic sheet available in seven high gloss colours and, as well as being used in kitchens, applications include shower walls and bathrooms. Weighing less than a quarter of a traditional glass sheet, Lustrolite has 20 times the impact strength, is easy to work with and can be installed rapidly over new or existing wall finishes. The colour is permanently fused to the clear layer and it is highly resistant to harsh chemicals, like bleaches and solvents, as well as wear and scratches because of its hard coated surface.

Robert Bell, managing director of Evolution Properties Services, comments: "Aesthetically, Lustrolite looks just like glass yet it's very easy to cut and install and the instructions were perfect - my kitchen fitter is now a convert. It's a great product and has allowed us to finish the kitchen to a contemporary finish at a reasonable price. We will definitely be using it again on other projects."
