Sarah Boden |Lotus
This autumn The Sanctuary Studio & Gallery presents ‘Wonder', an exhibition full of uplifting colour by three talented women artists. Artist and adventurous traveller Sarah Boden makes works which explore the differences and similarities between the cultures and landscapes of East and West. Through pattern and a dazzling palette of colours in a variety of mediums, including oil, acrylic and watercolour, she makes vivid paintings that celebrate uniquely special landscapes, from the tranquil hills of her home in Gloucestershire to lush Far Eastern gardens to the vital energy of our precious rainforests.
Sarah's collections are filled with optimism and a simple appreciation for our natural world, whilst drawing attention to the beauty and fragility of our environment at a time when our thoughts are turning at last to protecting it.Sarah has previously been shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and exhibits across the South West.
Sue England |The Path That You Took
Artist Sue England studied at Manchester College of Art and worked for many years as a graphic designer before becoming a full-time painter. Working in oil, mixed media, and the specialised disciplines of screen print and monoprint, she makes rich and expressive images inspired by natural landscapes here in the England and as far away as New Zealand. Taking sketches done in situ, as well as photos, found objects and her memories of time spent in the landscape, she uses a carefully tuned palette of colours and multiple layers of the paint to reflect the physical layering of the land, whilst hinting at its history and whatever lies beneath.
This collection includes work from her recent Sussex Denman's Garden residency, created in autumn 2022, alongside other garden inspired pieces.
Emma Howell |Peace in the Balance
Rising young painter Emma Howell makes beautiful abstract works aimed at nurturing a more positive relationship with the world in difficult times. These joyful paintings inspire a deeper appreciation and more colourful affinity with nature, society and culture, and invite the viewer to connect with Emma's passion for adventure, and the vivid beauty that is all around us.
In 2015 Emma graduatedfrom the University of Gloucestershire with a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art, and in 2019 she was nominated for Cotswold Artist of the Year. Since graduating she has exhibited in Europe, North America, Australia and The Seychelles.
