Labcell Ltd, Food & Drink Expo 2014, NEC Birmingham, 24-26 March 2014, stand J230.
Labcell will be presenting its comprehensive portfolio of water activity instruments together with ranges of refractometers and pH meters at Food & Drink Expo 2014. Throughout the exhibition, Labcell's specialists will be giving live demonstrations of the instruments and discussing applications with visitors. The instruments are suitable for use in quality-assurance tasks such as acceptance testing of ingredients, in-process inspections and sample testing of final products. In addition, they can prove invaluable in the development of new food and drink products and packaging.
Much of Labcell's stand will be devoted to the Decagon Devices instruments for measuring water activity (also known as equilibrated relative humidity, or ERH) and moisture content, and for generating moisture sorption isotherms. Visitors can see the AquaLab Series 4TE which is the latest version of Decagon's renowned benchtop instrument for making accurate measurements of water activity in less than five minutes. While identical in most respects, the AquaLab Series 4TEV al
so benefits from a sensor for use with samples containing propylene glycol, ethanol and other volatiles. Also being demonstrated will be the AquaLab Duo that is believed to be unique in its ability to measure water activity and water content simultaneously, with high-quality data available in less than five minutes.
For those seeking a portable instrument that still provides good accuracy, the pocket-sized Pawkit will be available for visitors to try for themselves. Despite its small size, this instrument is still highly capable; readings are obtained in just five minutes, with a resolution of 0.01 awover the measuring range of 0 to 1.00 aw.
Many visitors will also be interested to see the latest generation of AquaLab VSA (Vapor Sorption Analyzer). This easy-to-use, benchtop instrument generates complete moisture sorption isotherms in just two days, with its patented Dynamic Dewpoint Isotherm (DDI) technology delivering high-resolution, accurate adsorption and desorption isotherms containing over 100 points on each curve.
Labcell supplies a wide range of digital refractometers manufactured by Atago and Bellingham + Stanley. Customers have a choice of general instruments for measuring dissolved sugar and/or salt, as well as models developed for specific applications such as evaluating the moisture content of honey. Most models require a small sample to be placed in the instrument's sample cup and there is also a pen-style instrument that can be dipped into a liquid for making quick and easy measurements. Typical applications for the refractometers include measuring sugar content of fruit prior to harvesting, grape must concentration for wine production, process control, quality assurance and new product development.
The measurement of pH is of interest to personnel involved in quality assurance, pro
cess control and new product development. Labcell will be using the Food & Drink Expo to promote a number of different handheld and benchtop instruments for measuring and monitoring pH. Manufactured by Jenway, these are high-quality instruments that have each been designed to meet a specific market requirement.
