MORE BRITS VISITED SHOWS ON BROADWAY LAST YEAR
International Visitors Increased by 4% in 2013
Over 28,000 more British holidaymakers visited New York's theatreland Broadway last year.
The latest visitor figures show that international visitors to Broadway were up some 4% for 2012/2013 over 2011/2012 meaning that British visitors will have gone up from 250,000 to around 278,000 during the year. This means that British theatre lovers now represent 10% of all foreign visitors attending Broadway shows, and 2.4% of all the total Broadway audience.*
This significant increase is believed to be partly due to the success of two British-inspired shows, Kinky Boots and Matilda at the annual Tony Awards, with Kinky Boots winning six awards and Matilda winning four. This is sure to be boosted in 2014 with the arrival of Disney's Aladdin and the return of Cabaret and Les Miserables.
It has also become increasingly quick for British holidaymakers to book seats ahead of their trip, thanks to The Broadway Collection, a group of top Broadway productions which can be booked easily through UK holiday companies, so they can pay in advance and know they will have guaranteed seats when they arrive on the days they want.
The full Broadway Collection includes; After Midnight, Aladdin, Beautiful-The Carole King Musical, The Blue Man Group, The Book of Mormon, The Bridges of Madison County, Bullets over Broadway, Cabaret, Chicago, Jersey Boys, Kinky Boots, Les Miserables, Mamma Mia, Matilda, Motown, Newsies, Once, Pippin, Rock of Ages, Rocky, Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella, Stomp, The Lion King, The Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, and The Metropolitan Opera.
