German meteorologists recently went on record, predicting
that Britain would see its hottest summer in 75 years, much to the delight of
businesses across the country who have their fingers crossed, hoping that a
scorching summer will forecast good news for their business. London Stone, a
market leader in the world of natural stone paving, is one of those companies.
A spokesperson for London Stone said that while the
construction industry and more houses being built has had a measurable effect
on the demand for natural stone paving, the weather could play just as
important a role over the course of the summer months.
“When the sun is shining people seem far more likely to get
out and spend their money and that seems to be especially true when it comes to
paving, or anything outdoor related, really. Let’s face it most people can’t
even be bothered to mow the lawn in the cold winter months never mind
renovating their garden! But when summer rolls around and if the weather is
nice people get out and will improve their gardens, whether it’s building
sheds, laying down paving or planting flowers.
“The natural stone sector has already benefited from the
effects of a surge in the number of new homes being built and we’re bracing
ourselves for another surge in people buying natural stone and enhancing their
gardens this summer – especially if it’s as hot as has been predicted.”
However, while London Stone are predicting higher sales in
the coming months, they recognise that early weather forecasts aren’t always
reliable.
“As for whether we’re going to have the hottest summer in 75
years, while we’d love that to be the case but you can’t have too much
confidence in the accuracy of the forecast given Britain’s history with
sensationalist and outright incorrect predictions. Knowing our luck it will
probably end up snowing in July.”
