British people not happy with British food being sold in supermarkets – Hog Roast Yorkshire comments
Retailers need to do more to support British farming by stocking more home grown food, National Farmers’ Union President Peter Kendall has claimed, pointing to a YouGov survey commissioned by the NFU as evidence that Britons still have an appetite for British produce.

The YouGov survey shows that there is a lot of pressure on supermarkets in Britain to sell more British food.  A staggering 79% of respondents believe that supermarkets need to sell more food produce from British farms.

The YouGov study also found that the horsemeat scandal is still fresh in people’s minds, with trust levels in supermarkets at 52% compared to 35% immediately after the scandal according to a OnePoll survey and 69% before the scandal broke.

Peter Kendall, previously a president of NFU, said: "The YouGov survey shows that 79% of British people think British supermarkets should sell more food produced on British farms. I’m constantly told by some supermarkets that their sourcing policies are determined by what their customers want. This survey shows very clearly that consumers want more British food, so I hope they will take this on board and act on it.

“We’re not saying that supermarkets should not stock any foreign produce. But we would urge the retailers to listen to what consumers are saying.”

Catering company Hog Roast Yorkshire regularly reacts to relevant research and news.

A spokesperson for Hog Roast Yorkshire said: “This is further proof that people want British produce – they want produce that they can trust. And that’s something we’ve known for a long time because we cater every week for people who can’t get enough of our locally reared, 100% British hog roasts!

“It will be interesting to see whether supermarkets heed the survey and make an effort to source more produce reared or grown in the UK. The likelihood is that if people want quality meats from the UK they’re going to have to go to a local butchers rather than the supermarket for a proper choice just like we do.”
