Experts say ecommerce growth for Dominos Pizza shows importance of web
A noted website marketing company in the UK, Ranking Solutions, has reacted to news that Dominos Pizza has seen massive ecommerce growth

Dominos Pizza, one of the world’s largest pizza companies, recently announced that a staggering 70% of delivered sales in the United Kingdom are now made on the internet.

The company, which has over 10,000 company-owned and franchised stores worldwide – including close to a thousand in the UK alone – revealed a 14.8% increase in system sales, resulting in £188.5 million for Q1 this year.

The global pizza giant also reported that online purchases accounted for 69.4% of all UK deliveries, up 25% to £103 million.

Figures for mobile orders also fared well, with 34% of online orders being made through mobile devices.

“We are pleased with the like-for-like performance in our core UK and Republic of Ireland business. We remain confident in delivering our target of 40-50 new stores in 2014. Although it is still early the plans we have in place are strong and I look forward with optimism,” explained Stephen Hemsley, Chairman of Dominos.

Ranking Solutions, a Lancashire-based company that often provides comment on news relating to search engine optimisation, advertising and ecommerce, says that the growth is proof of the increasing potential of the internet – especially when it comes to mobile shopping.

“The figures that we’ve seen released underline what the digital marketing industry has been saying for some time now, that being that the web can help businesses tremendously. It doesn’t matter how popular you are offline, there’s still huge additional profits to be made online – and Dominos have proved that,” said Gareth Owen, Managing Director of Ranking Solutions.

“Ultimately it comes down to convenience. Most people, if they can, are going to turn to the internet if they need something, be it a product or a local service, so having a strong position on the web is hugely advantageous,” explained Mr Owen.

Continuing, Gareth Owen said that being at the top of search engines for relevant industry search terms and having a mobile-friendly website are essential in 2014.

“As an expert in our field we know just how important it is to appear on the front of Google – other popular search engines too – for keywords that are relevant to your business and the services that you provide. And we also know from research and website data just how important having a smartphone-friendly website is in this day and age, as the Dominos Pizza figures show.”
