Ayr Equestrian, a seller of horse and rider wear, has reacted to news that the World Equestrian Games has received a record number of entries
This year’s Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG), which are to be held in Normandy, received a total of 72 ‘entered in principle’ from National Federations (NFs), an increase of 10 percent relative to previous years.
It was showjumping that was responsible for attracting the most entries, with a grand total of 57 countries from around the world intending to take part in the event. Showjumping was followed by endurance, which was entered by 50 different countries.
A number of countries – Great Britain, Germany, Austria, France, Australia, Switzerland, Netherland, Sweden and the United States – entered in every available FEI discipline.
Meanwhile, the WEG should see 12 countries make their debut, including Palestine, Romania, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong and the Republic of Korea.
Ingmar De Vos, FEI Secretary General, expressed his delight at the growing interest in the competition.
“It is very exciting to welcome new nations from all over the world to the FEI’s biggest event. The majority of the nations that will be participating for the first time have indicated their intention to send teams or individuals in more than one discipline, which shows how well our sport is developing all around the world.”
A full list of entries in principle can currently be found on the WEG website.
Ayr Equestrian, an online seller of equestrian goods based in Ayr, England, regularly reacts to relevant news. A representative for the company believes that a record number of attendees prove unparalleled growth in the sport.
“Undoubtedly, there has been massive growth in the world of equestrian in recent years and the number of principle entries for the World Equestrian Games shows that to be true.
“But it’s not just in a global sense that there has been a surge in interest as we’re also seeing a big rise in the number of participants and viewers in a strictly British context. You would have to think that the Olympics 2012 have played a significant role in boosting the profile of the sport on British soil and across the world.
“We’ve seen an increase in the number of sales at Ayr Equestrian in recent years and with the sport and our selection of professional products growing every day, we expect that trend to continue.”
