Plate heat exchangers maximise efficiency from solar thermal gains

So called ‘solar farms' were once a sight only associated with southern Europe, but have now become a feature of the British countryside, and have possibly given rise to the mistaken belief that getting the best from the sun's energy is mainly down to the size of your array. It is a misconception which Stokvis Energy Systems actively challenges through its many installations which combine high performance tubular collectors and its well proven plate heat exchangers, normally using the concept of solar preheat.

As a recognised authority on the design and installation of solar thermal systems for a variety of locations, Stokvis has completed many successful contracts for clients including hotels, schools, hospitals, commercial organisations and even Government departments. The manufacturer has also recently published new literature covering both its solar related technology, and the different arrangements whereby the equipment's use can be optimised.

Rather than deploying inefficient flat plate collectors, Stokvis has been supplying the patented Ecotube, featuring evacuated tube technology to minimise temperature losses, either by convection or conduction. The heat from the Ecotubes is best stored in a "solar preheat" vessel from where water is then drawn off via one of Stokvis Energy System's compact Econoplate packaged plate heat exchangers which provides the additional temperature rise if required.

Paul Sands of Stokvis Energy Systems comments: "The energy reaching the surface of the Earth every 30 minutes is equivalent to what the population of the planet uses in a whole year.

"Marrying up our Ecotube solar collectors with an Econoplate plate heat exchanger offers the ultimate in high efficiency hot water systems. As our new CONCEPT brochure illustrates, an Econoplate can even be used to maintain a second buffer vessel at the required temperature for the domestic hot water supply."

With its range of fully modulating condensing boilers and long experience of tuning designs to meet the demands of different property types, Stokvis Energy Systems is able to offer customers comprehensive heating and hot water solutions taking best advantage of the sun's free energy.
