BBC Two’s ‘The Great Sewing Bee’ behind popularity boom says The Remnant House
The Remnant House – Harrogate’s most popular fabric and haberdashery emporium have recently experienced a satisfying ‘rise in popularity’ from keen amateurs wishing to take up sewing, dress making and other similar hobbies, thanks in part to the chic status such activity has developed and inspiration from such programs as BBC Two’s current arts and crafts programme ‘The Great British Sewing Bee.’

Thanks to the recent televised showing of this program which is now well into its second series, haberdashery experts The Remnant House believe that ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’ has had a positive effect on the rise of their enquiries, both online and in visits to their quaint and picturesque Harrogate shop.

A spokesperson for The Remnant House gave their personal opinion, stating that: “Business has really moved forwards, more than we expected, thanks to the great timing of what has become a popular television show from the BBC.” Adding that, “Although we are kept busy throughout the year tending to the requests and demands of our local visitors and wider online clientele, the popular BBC series ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’ has temporarily helped to boost our sales at this moment in time.”

The Remnant House believes that this is also a direct result that has come from the increased popularity of sewing and haberdashery within the home, stating it’s ‘chic appeal’ and ‘fashionable status’ as more fashion trends are copied by individuals looking to create inexpensive reproductions of the latest fashions at a fraction of the cost.

The Great British Sewing Bee, presented by Claudia Winkleman is proving to ‘bee’ a promising success as episode 7 of the second series was broadcast a few days ago on Tuesday the 1st April, where the four remaining sewers compete in more interesting challenges in a bid to be rewarded with a place in the upcoming final.

Eager to see more programs similar to this back on our screens, the team at The Remnant House look forward to the further boost in the public awareness that is generated by such offerings as BBC Two’s popular show ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’.

“As TV is still a major influence to people of all ages, the ability to generate interest in a particular hobby or pastime is terrific” said The Remnant House’s spokesperson, adding that “inadvertently experiencing a boost in awareness not only has benefitted The Remnant House but also many other fabric, cloth and haberdashery shops across the country, for which we are all pleased for and thankful of.”
