Spanish football league president breaks UEFA protocols in Gibraltar Tweet

President of the Spanish Football League Javier Tebas Medrano has caused an international controversy on the eve of a visit to Gibraltar by senior officials of UEFA.

Breaking all UEFA protocols by bringing politics into sport, he stated on Twitter thatUEFA members and executives would enjoy matches in Gibraltar even more, once Gibraltar is captured and becomes Spanish again. It is thought that officials of the Gibraltar Football League, recently admitted to UEFA against hostile Spanish government sponsored opposition, will take issue on his statement at the highest levels within UEFA. Although the word ‘captured' has threatening connotations it is thought that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has not yet responded.
