Local entrepreneur launches 3D printer reseller business

Shepperton businessman, Tony Harrison, has this week launched 3D Generation Ltd, a business that sources, supplies, finances and maintains 3D printers.

Authorised to supply the Stratasys Ideas Series and the 3D Systems, Inc. range, Tony established 3D Generation to meet increasing demand and support a wide range of manufacturing needs.

Also known as additive manufacturing, 3D printing is a means of producing solid objects in almost any shape. 3D printers ‘print' from CAD (computer aided design) files, using the familiar File > Print command.

When the user starts the process, the item takes shape layer by layer on the machine's platform, or build bed.

3D printing is growing across every industry sector imaginable. Industrial applications include aerospace, automotive, rail, defence and manufacturing. In healthcare, work is in progress to use 3D printing to replicate body tissue and internal organs. In dentistry, technicians can produce custom made crowns and bridges using 3D print technology. Architects, film makers, product designers and researchers use 3D printing for modelling. In academia, 3D printing lets engineering students bring their concepts to life and show proof of concept.

Tony said: "3D printing used to be a specialist process. Today, it is affordable and usable for businesses of all types and sizes. 3D printing reduces material waste, cuts lead times and helps designers fine-tune their products. At 3D Generation, we help businesses get the machines they need and provide tailored ongoing support."
